The infected or inflamed pulp is carefully removed, the canals are cleaned and shaped, and the inside of the tooth is disinfected to eliminate any remaining bacteria. The canals are then filled and sealed with a biocompatible material to prevent reinfection.
In most cases, a dental crown is placed over the treated tooth shortly after to restore its full strength and protect it from future damage. Once the crown is in place, the tooth looks and functions just like any other tooth in your mouth.
